Flowers Everyday

Celestine's Flowers
I needed a gift for a friend's mom. She is like a mother to me. So, I wandered what do you give a person that has everything. I ponder and decided to make a "Mug Rug". I look online for one. But I thought it would be better if I designed it especially for her.

I thought flowers would be nice. She would be able to have flowers every morning with her coffee. This would be a perfect gift for her. Sorry to say, my design process took longer than expected. I didn't finish it in time for her luncheon.

I had to settle on scarves (not photos) I made earlier. But the good news is, I will still see her on her actual birthday. She will be very surprised to receive a second gift from me.

Now that I made my first Mug Rug, I will make more to have on hand for other special occasions. Stay tune....

How was the Mug Rug quilted? I free motion matchstick  lines using my foot as a guide on the flying geese side. I organic quilted the flowers for an artsy look. I never appliqued this way before. I love the look. Will incorporate it in other small projects.

Mug Rugs are another way to use up your scrap fabric and batting.

Tea's Flowers

This month I have been working on my hand piecing. I started this quilt in August 2009.  This is my first hand pieced project. I lost interest because I was piecing too slow. But I was forgetting, if you are new at something, you have to allow yourself a learning curve (Duh!). Now I have a kit setup by my TV chair. I can work on this quilt whenever I watch a program with my DH. I am a bit slow. But I am determine to complete this UFO.  I hope as time goes by I can hand piece faster. Faster: to finish one flower in 30 minutes or less not hours....LOL. I know this is suppose to be relaxing. I'm trying. Really, I am. Maybe as I continue I won't be sooo tense. At least that is what I'm telling myself (tell that to the perfectionist, me).  I plan to hand quilt it, also (Yikes!). Am I  asking for a timeout or what.

Anyway, I hope to finish this year and will have learned to like love  (I appreciate all those that do) hand piecing.
